Comments: Téenek, also known as Huastec or Huasteco, is a Mayan language spoken in the Huasteca region of Mexico, primarily in the states of San Luis Potosí and northern Veracruz. It is the sole surviving language of the Huastecan branch of the Mayan language family and is notable for having tone, similar to its neighbors. The language is spoken by approximately 170,000 to 200,000 people, and efforts are underway to preserve it through community and institutional initiatives.
